A wet ground is a sign of rain.

A wet ground is a symptom of rain, but it does not mean that it has rained. Similarly, fruits of the spirit are symptoms of the influence of God, but it does not mean that if someone feels good or peaceful that they have experienced the influence of God. In reality, a person can feel "good" because they are smoking marijuana or because they won a fight. These feelings are "good", but lack an indescribable element. A commonly used word that is cross-cultural that I think fits well is the term: "enlightenment". Spiritual experiences often have the symptoms of joy, peace, love, kindness, patience, humility, tolerance-- AND enlightenment. Enlightenment is accompanied with a sure knowledge of certain things. That assurance is so powerful that it is stronger than seeing it with your eyes. The assurance is of the existence and character of God, and of other things too which are hard to put to words.People who have not experienced enlightenment from the influence...

Snake oil salesmen and black holes

Some people disregard spirituality as a whole because of the many "nut-cases" that can be encountered (fortune tellers or those guys who slap people in the forehead etc.). Other people reject all spirituality because so much of it disagrees (it is a HIGHLY controversial field)-- and many assume it must therefore be incorrect because among 100 contradicting theories on a single issue-- at best, 99 are wrong and 1 is right (supposing that even 1 is right). Before we throw out the entire field, take a look at the field of "medical science" not too long ago. It was more wrong than it was right. It did more harm than good. But with some time and effort, the field developed and is now more predictably useful... however-- there still exists a LARGE and BROAD field of pseudo-science medicine. It claims to be "real science based medicine", but is often just as delusion based as pseudo spirituality-- it is a counterfeit of something real. My theo...

We are all wrong about God

Image
I had a realization this morning. I studied general Chemistry in undergrad and we were trying to learn about and describe the most basic building block of all matter. It soon became apparent to me that we (scientists) really had no clue what the heck we were talking about. Scientists had ways of measuring and predicting and calculating effects in regards to concepts that they called electrons and protons etc. but when it came down to it-- they had no idea what it really was, what it was made of or what it really looked like. Somehow electrons are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Its like they don't really exist, but they have a probability of existing. Its crazy stuff and people that think that we really understand it are deluded Since nothing like it really exists in the world that we see and hear and touch, we have no idea what it really is-- we lack the capacity to do so. Our ball and stick models of atoms help us make some predictions about things, but they are so ...
